The first meeting of District Project Coordination Committee, Akola district for CAIM project was held on 24th August 2010 in Lokshahi Hall, Collector office, Akola. The meeting was chaired by the District Collector and Chairperson, DPCC. The agenda for the meeting was;
1) Discuss the overall framework of CAIM project
2) Discuss probable activities for publicity of the project
3) Identify success stories related to various activities undertaken by the departments and discuss the documentation methodology
4) Any other subject with the permission of chair
The District Project Manager of DPMT Akola presented the overall framework of the project. All the members and officers of the DPCC keenly understood the project concept and shared their views. The members appreciated the end-to-end approach and mostly importantly the feature of forward linkage. The Collector emphasized the need and importance of convergence to ensure the outcome of the project.
It was further discussed that this concept should be effectively conveyed to the government departments, non-governmental organizations and private agencies. Different departments conduct meetings and workshops for their staff. DPMT officers could be invited to give information of the project. Similarly, workshops could be organized for bulk traders, primary processors, etc.
Different line departments are implementing various projects and schemes in the district. These include, Accelerated Pulse Production Programme, farm ponds, watershed development, fisheries, apiculture, sericulture, floriculture, shed-net house, etc. These activities have shown good success in select clusters. In an effort to promote convergence and to demonstrate better livelihood opportunities for informed decision-making, it is important to document these success stories and disseminate.
The District Collector made very important suggestions for institutionalizing project management, scheme convergence and regular project review. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks.
